Skilled Employer Sponsored Migration

This visa subclass serves the needs of people wishing to be employed in Australia where Australian employers are unable to obtain the skills they need within the Australian labour market.

This process involves two steps:

  1. an application by the employer for the approval of a business sponsorship and nomination of business activities; and
  2. an application by the appointee, the Applicant, for the visa subclass.

Both applications can be made at the same time.

To be approved as a Business Sponsor an employer must satisfy the Department of Immigration that:

  • it is lawfully operating in Australia
  • it will be the direct employer of the Applicant
  • it is of good standing
  • it will honour the sponsor's obligation; and
  • the employment of the visa Applicant will benefit Australia
